Recover Overwritten Files

Data is something we sometimes move, copy, email, rename and edit carelessly. We do not see how careful we should be with our data until we suddenly find a file gone. Deleting files accidentally are pretty common at work and at home. Missing files can cause you stay up for hours searching for that file and panicking. Retrieving files that have been deleted is possible if you know where to look. The file is not lost forever, you will should be able to recover that deleted file by using the tool below.

One of the more common mistakes people make is when they move a file and they suddenly do not see it where it should be. They think they have accidentally deleted the file. Before panicking make sure to bring up you search option and search for the file. You can put in the entire file name or a partial file name. To enter a partial filename you need to use wildcards. If you know that the word test is in the filename but think there's some more text in front of that work then you can search for test. And if you think there's words behind the word test then you can search for test. And of course if there are words in front and behind the you can search for*test*. Also make sure you are searching the entire computer and not just a particular folder.

If your search does not find the file then you have accidentally deleted the file. Check the recycle bin to see if it's in there. If the file is in the recycle bin then you can right click on the file and choose restore, or click and drag the file onto the desktop or anywhere else you want it. If the file is not in the recycle bin then you have to take further action to get the file back.

When you delete a file off your computer the file is actually still sitting on your hard drive. The only things that gets deleted is the reference to the file. The reference or pointer tells your operating system where the file is located at. The file will only be gone off the hard drive if the operating system saves a file over top of it.

Here are the two ways to recover your deleted file once you have deleted it. You can restore you Windows operating system to an earlier date. Most newer Windows operating systems created restore points for you. Your second option is to get a third party software. This software can find the lost data by scanning the hard drive and identifying your file.
